Some
of you, like me, may well be lost as to all the permutations available
in getting to Italy from Scotland. It seems that not so long ago you
could hop on a BA flight and a days travelling and small fortune later
you were there.
With airline
routes ever changing and new ones opening up all the time, I've tried to
keep this list as concise and up to date as possible.
Be sure to check out
www.skyscanner.net which will
check best prices over a period of time, the list of operators even includes
Ryanair.
All of these listed can be booked
online unless stated otherwise.
Finally I've found that it may be
worth looking at various combinations of one-way tickets for best times
and prices, perhaps even using different carriers.
Glasgow based Italian travel
specialists Solemar organise popular charter summer flights from
Scotland (Glasgow (International) and Aberdeen) to
destinations such as Pisa and Rimini. Cannot currently be
booked online. Their telephone number is 07000 87 28 24
Primarily a package operator to Italy, The
Magic of Italy Group has been known in the past to provide direct
flight only options to Italy from Scotland.
Also a package operator to Italy, Citalia
offers much the same as above though also caters for an Italy by Rail
option (from London) with stop over in Paris.
Here's are my
favourite airline ticket search engines
Plan ahead with
the excellent
AA Route
Planner
a free service on their
website which will map out the preferred route from any continental port
to any other European destination.
Hiring
a Car in Italy often works out cheaper than many Northern European
countries. For my purposes I've found
Holiday Autos to
offer the best deals. Car hire from them is available in most Italian
Airports.
FERRY ROUTES
There's only one
direct service from Scotland to Europe, leaving Rosyth to
Zeebrugge available to book direct on:
